There is great benefit to moving our bodies in ways that feel good rather than doing so to try to look a certain way. Here are a few reasons to consider.
1. There are many other reasons to move.
Working out can be enjoyable. It has the potential to help us relieve stress, build strength, and improve our energy and mood. When we focus on how it makes us feel, we are able to build a more positive relationship with it.
2. We can find ways to move that work best for us.
When we listen to our own bodies, we can find forms of movement that actually feel good.
Trying a variety of activities can help us to learn what we enjoy the most. This may or may not involve the gym, home workouts, stretching, or outdoor activities.
3. We can make a habit out of our chosen activities.
When we force ourselves to move for a physical goal, it can start to feel like a burden. When we move in ways that feel good, we are more inclined to make a habit out of it. When it becomes a habit, we are more likely to enjoy its benefits for our overall health.
