It goes without saying that the pandemic has changed many of our lifestyles. A big shift we’ve seen is people moving away from working out at the gym. As we enter the heart of winter, it can be tricky to find enjoyable ways to get moving that don’t require a gym membership. Below are some workout ideas to consider for this winter:
1.Ice Skating. There are several locations in Rhode Island that offer public skating, lessons, or ice hockey leagues. To name a few:
Bank Newport City Center rink at Kennedy Plaza in Providence
Washington Trust Community Skating Center in Westerly
Boss Arena at the University of Rhode Island (indoors)
2.Pickleball. A racquet sport that is friendly for all-ages, pickleball has the essence of badminton, tennis, and ping-pong. It is played with a wooden paddle and a plastic ball on a small court. Check out leagues and lessons at Tennis RI in Warwick or East Providence. Also inquire at your local YMCA or rec center as they likely have leagues kicking off for the winter season.
3.At-home workout videos. Whether you enjoy yoga, dance, walking, or strength training, there is something for everyone! Some of our favorites include:

5.Winter hikes and walks. Rhode Island is home to beautiful landscapes. Bundle up, pull on you boots (and maybe snowshoes!), and check out one of these hiking destinations:
Trustom Pond- Matunuck
Lincoln Woods State Park- Lincoln
Sachuest Point- Newport
Arcadia Management Area- West Greenwich/Richmond/Hope Valley
