Non-Diet New Year’s Resolutions

The New Year is a time of reflection that may come with pressure to diet. Setting non-diet related New Year’s resolutions is one way to navigate harmful messaging.

  • Plan for self-care. Self-care is different for everyone. It can look like going for a walk, taking a nap, getting a massage, or asking for support from friends and family. Explore what feels good for you and make it a part of your routine.

  • Challenge negative self-talk. We can be our own worst critic. Acknowledge your inner critic and practice not responding to it. Overtime, this neutrality will take precedence.

  • Incorporate joyful movement. We are more likely to engage in movement if it is enjoyable. Allow yourself to choose what feels best for your body. This may be going for a walk, riding a bike, yoga and more!

  • Make rest and sleep a priority. When we are busy or stressed, rest and sleep often fall onto the back burner. Learn to listen to your body when it is asking for rest.

Ingredients
1 cup lentils
1/2 red pepper (about 1/2 cup), finely chopped
2 celery stalks, finely chopped
1/3 cup red onion, finely chopped
1/3 cup flat-leaf (Italian) parsley, chopped
4 oz Feta cheese, crumbled
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt

2.Bring to a boil, and cook until lentils are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
3.Drain and rinse with cold water in a colander. Let stand for a few minutes to drain well and cool off a bit.
4.Finely chop all veggies, put in a bowl and add Feta.
5.In a separate bowl whisk olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper.
6.Once lentils have cooled a bit (they don’t need to be completely cold) add them to the bowl with the veggies,
7.Pour in olive oil/lemon juice mixture and mix well.
8.Allow to sit in fridge a few hours before serving.
