Holiday’s can be a joyous time spent with family and friends, events and activities, and eating delicious food. The holiday’s can also bring about feelings of stress and worry from fear of over-eating favorite foods. Some may say to avoid certain foods and enjoy others, or give tips and tricks to compensate for over-eating.

So how can the holiday experience be joyful, and not stressful? Try some of these mindful ways to help increase your enjoyment around food during the holiday.

1.Enjoy your favorite holiday foods.
Avoiding your favorite holiday foods causes cravings to increase, not decrease. Giving yourself permission to have the food you love means you are more likely to enjoy it.

2.Honor your hunger and fullness.
Skipping meals to compensate for favorite foods will only lead to increased hunger. By eating adequately and a variety of foods, you are more likely to enjoy yourself.

3.Make time for self-care.
Holiday’s can be filled with many schedules, stress, shopping, and social obligations. Taking the time to sleep, breathe, and move your body in a way you enjoy will ensure you are more in tune with your body.
