Winter in New England means access to some incredible citrus. You are probably familiar clementines, tangerines, and navel oranges. But have you heard of the pomelo?
The pomelo is a humble, Asian citrus fruit. On the outside, it resembles a grapefruit. In fact, the grapefruit is actually a cross between a pomelo and a sweet orange. Here’s everything you need to know about the pomelo.
-Pomelos are sweeter and have less juice. Grapefruit is known for it’s tang. But Pomelos are pleasantly sweet.
-Pomelo flowers can be used for perfume. They have an extremely aromatic scent.
-They are a powerful source of Vitamin C. One pomelo can provide the necessary daily needs for Vitamin C.
-Pomelos provide a source of the antioxidants naringenin and naringin. These can help reduce inflammation in the body.
