2 Questions to Ask Yourself

If you are sick of riding the dieting roller coaster, you may be interested in Intuitive Eating (IE). IE empowers you to use your body’s natural signals of hunger and fullness to guide you in how much and when to eat. It is far from a restrictive diet, and much more of a path towards eating “normally” and gaining stability in your health and weight.

Do you feel like you have a good understanding of your body’s needs? If you want to break away from restriction and explore IE, start by asking yourself these two questions.

What does healthy mean to you?
You may have a disordered mindset around food and health if your answer included the following:
  • Being a certain weight or size.
  • Avoiding certain food groups.
  • Tracking calories.
  • Feeling like you must earn specific foods.
  • Exercising to make up for what you ate.
  • Feeling guilty about eating.

What does “normal” eating look like?
Do you question if you are eating too much? Do you have a hard time telling if you are hungry or full? Do you feel like you must avoid eating at certain times of the day?

If after answering these questions you find yourself wanting to improve your relationship with food, then IE is right for you.

IE is a journey that includes redefining what healthy means. Having more energy, moving your body in a way that feels good, eating an array of foods throughout the day, and having a positive self-esteem are supportive of good health. If you want to learn more about IE, check out https://www.intuitiveeating.org/ and talk to one of our dietitians.
